About Me
Hello! My name is Destinee Kreil and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Masters of Counselling Psychology (MCP) from Adler University. I have been privileged to have spent over 10 years working with children and families experiencing a range of concerns from managing daily stressors to complex mental health difficulties.
My drive to support children and their family members comes from my belief that children, parents, and families have an incredible capacity to develop emotional and mental resilience when given the support, opportunities, and tools. Parenting and managing a family can be non-stop. Therefore, when added challenges occur for you or your children it can be exhausting and discouraging. You, as a parent, are the foundation for your child and it brings me joy to support families move from hopeless to hopeful, exhausted to empowered, and by showing how counselling can make monumental shifts for you, your children, and your family’s wellness.
I have specialized training in Expressive Play Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy and other research-based mental health interventions which I integrate in my work with clients. However, every child, family, and challenge is unique, so my interventions will vary depending on the needs of everyone and the presentation of specific mental health challenges. My primary goal is to create a therapeutic environment where each person is deeply seen, feels nurtured, and feels safe. I have found that these foundations allow children and families to fully participate in creating lasting systems of change.
On a personal level, beyond work, I am most happy chasing after my two beautiful daughters, spending time with my family and friends, and cooking delicious food. You can also find me exploring nature through hiking, camping and canoeing or otherwise reading books and experiencing the world through travel.
If you think I might be a good fit for you and your family please feel free to contact me or book your free 15-minute consultation. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you with finding wellness in an increasingly complicated and stressful world.
