Parent Support Coquitlam
Providing parents and caregivers the opportunity and skills to support their children toward wellness.

What is Parent Support?
Many parents and families feel stuck or stressed at how to best help their child through the challenges they face. There is no manual on how to help a child who is experiencing mental health challenges, and the fact that every child is unique makes it difficult to know how to create the changes you’d like to see.
At Strong River Counselling we believe that you are the best parent for your child and that you are the best person to support your child through the difficulties that may arise for them in life. We support parents and families through our parent support sessions to learn how to create manageable and lasting changes that will lead to long-term wellness for the whole family.
Parent Support Approach
At Strong River Counselling we use Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) to help parents and caregivers develop skills, practice these tools, and feel empowered to more effectively support their children and family members through life challenges.
How Can EFFT Help?
Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) believes that parents and caregivers play an essential role in their children's path to wellness and improved mental health.
Parents and caregivers will develop skills to:
-
Decrease the symptoms of mental health difficulties for their loved ones
-
Improve emotional functioning for their loved ones
-
Decrease behavioural symptoms and challenges for their loved ones
-
Improve parental empowerment
-
Repair relationship ruptures with loved ones.
